Since 2006, Shulamit Glaubach, MD, a child, adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatrist, has treated patients at her private practice in San Francisco, California. Shulamit Glaubach, MD, uses a holistic approach with her patients. Outside of work, she regularly participates in city-wide drills as part of her local neighborhood emergency response team (NERT). She encourages all educators and parents in the San Francisco area to become NERT certified for the welfare of their communities and families.

NERT certification brings together neighbors, coworkers, and community members who wish to make their neighborhoods a safer place. People who are NERT certified are trained citizen first-responders who are equipped to be self-sufficient when disaster occurs and who can lead others in emergency situations.

The San Francisco Fire Department conducts free NERT certification classes throughout the year. The program consists of six, three-hour classes taught by fire fighters. Subject matter includes earthquake awareness and preparedness, basic disaster skills, disaster medicine, light search and rescue, team organization and management, and hands-on training. In order to receive certification, a participant must attend all six classes and pass a final exam at the end of the program.
